As expected I was charged for the services rendered. However, I did not expect to be charged again two days later. What is that about? And yes, they charged me a month later too, which I expected because I didn't cancel my contract. I did read the fine print before I agreed to the services but I didn't agree to be billed twice in one period. Charging me twice in the same billing cycle for their services is basically pick pocketing. What's up with that? More...

  • Deception at airports

My 15 year old son paid for Boingo to access the internet in a Chicago airport last March to kill time during a layover between flights. I was reviewing my credit card statement for December and noticed a charge for $9.95 for Boingo. I looked back through statements and found they had been charging me $9.95 every month since March. My son understood the service to be a one time fee for a one day opportunity to get on the internet. He never used it again. We called Boingo and explained the situation and were told they would refund two months of the charges even though my son understood the... More...

  • Canceled Graciously

I had a pretty good experience with canceling Boingo. Like many others, I joined in an airport to get immediate email access, and didn’t notice that I was signing up for life. When I saw the monthly bills to my credit card, I called the toll free number to cancel and did get the “the system is down for maintenance, try again later” message from their account person, which I do think is a deliberate scam– they hope you’ll forget to try again. But when I did get someone later in the day, they politely canceled my account and agreed to refund to me the two months... More...

  • It was easy to cancel Boingo

My son-in-law used my credit card to use Boingo's wireless network at an airport on the East Coast. He was on his way to Afghanistan, and wanted to video instant message with my daughter. Unfortunately, for some reason he was actually signing up for a subscription with Boingo. Whether that was obvious when he did it, I do not know. I wasn't there. Today I noticed that Boingo has charged my credit card $9.95 for the last 3 months and so I called their 800 number to see if I could get it cancelled. After seeing all of the complaints about them online, I was ready for a long wait and... More...

  • No service, pain to cancel

I attempted to sign up to Boingo wireless at Heathrow airport. The connection to sign up was terrible but I only needed to send one email for work so I persisted and some how managed to create two accounts. I never was able to get an internet connection so I assumed the accounts were never created. After getting my first bill I contacted them to refund the money and close the account. 3 months later I notice they have been billing me almost $50 a month. With the help of my credit card company I have hopefully gotten them to refund all but one charge for $24. More...

  • Boingo scam

Boingo is deceptive and makes fraudulent charges. Boingo deliberately conceals aspects of the "As you Go" $7.95 24-hr. access charge for web connection at U.S. hotspots. I has used the service once, so I had a username and P.W. So,I tried 3 times with my username to switch to the $9.95 montlhy plan, as I planned to use the service as I travelled to several different airports over the course of a week. After not receiving a confirmation or instructions otherwise, I accessed a connection, so I thought all was ok. Days later, I found I had been billed $7.95 4 times within a 24 hr.... More...

  • Don't use Boingo!

I signed on to Boingo while on a layover in Chicago O'Hare airport, for what I thought was a one-time $6.95 fee for 24-hours use. After a few minutes online, I lost the signal, so signed on again. Two days later, Boingo hit my credit card for another $6.95, and when I called to complain, they told the 24 hours had to be "contiguous," in other words, signing off for any reason starts the clock ticking again with a new $6.95 fee. I've taken all of their software off my laptop, and after reading some of the other reviews, will monitor that credit card carefully. A... More...

  • Boingo Comes Through

I have used Boingo Wi-Fi on multiple occasions at BWI Airport in Linthicum, MD. I have never had any problems with the service. You must use the Boingo Wi-Fi app to connect with an iPod Touch or iPhone, and the service is as fast as my home connection. As pay-WiFi outlets like Boingo are popping up at travel destinations and hotspots all over the country, Boingo remains my favorite for their reasonable prices, fast internet, and general usability and customer interaction. I highly recommend purchasing a Boingo subscription if you travel often (or even if you don't) and need to be... More...

  • smtp

Boingo does not offer an smtp address for it's customers at airport wireless locations, the reason apparently being that they would have to use a different smtp for each location. I'm sorry but that is just not a reasonable arguement. For those of us who travel a lot and need to work, not being able to use your outlook or mail program is a huge inconvenience, and such a major airport wireless provider needs to take heed of that. It's really not that hard, just have an open one for all airports. More...

  • Cheap, Personal, nice customer care (twitter and facebook)

I have contact with Boingo on a regular base by Twitter. My experience with Boingo Wireless is actually pretty good, unfortunately in contrast with others. People complain about the way the payment is going and that people can't unsubscribe to Boingo. I don't have those bad experiences, so I think those are just rarely. The software to connect to the internet via Boingo is good: they offer a free small app which works on a PC, Mac, iPhone or iPod touch and many other smartphones. In The Netherlands I can also select Boingo as a roaming partner like AT&T, T-Mobile or BT and... More...

  • Boingo

Purchased one-time BOINGO wifi access at the Regan National Airport in Washington DC. First, it makes you download and install their software in order to connect to the internet. In the description they state it's not necessary to do so, but HIGHLY encouraged. I tried using Boingo without installing their software - no luck. But $$ paid, so I give in and install it. Next, it kicks you our hourly - you have to re-login in every hour. I worked for 3hours and exactly after each hour it kicks you our. Which normally wouldn't be an issue (even though it's quite annouying), but I... More...

  • Boingo Scam

I signed up at an airport for monthly service. "Cancel any time." So several weeks later I decided to cancel. I logged into my Boingo account and there was no way to cancel! No instructions on how to cancel. Lots of other options. So then it was time to google. Finally after trawling through everyones complaints about Boingo I found a number to sign up for Boingo. I was on hold for about 10 minutes and then disconnected. Then I got through and managed to cancel (hopefully) ... I'll have to check my credit card bill for surprizes.) What a waste of time. Avoid these scammers. More...

  • Boingo Wireless is a Scam

I was in an airport terminal and needed to connect to the internet. So I decided to pay the 8 bucks to connect "unlimited for 24 hours". I connected, paid the fee, and accessed the internet. After that, I walked to my airport terminal, and connected again. This time (not to my knowledge), I connected to a different Boingo hotspot. Well, they charge you for each different hotspot another 8 bucks. You get the idea. It's all in the fine print, so when you complain to them, they basically tell you to quit crying. DON'T DEAL WITH THEM, USE A DIFFERENT SERVICE. THEY SUCK. More...

  • boingo services

I have used Boingo for many years, originally on a pay as you go at many airports, and then converted to the monthly charge that allowed me to connect anytime and as often as I wanted at many different airports within a month for only the one fee. They had helped me several times with login issues by calling the 877 number and after not traveling for nearly 11 months, I called to cancel the service and they stopped the charges as of that day without issue. For me the Boingo service was excellant for nearly 6 years. More...

  • 24 hr period = 3 times the price

Signed up for a 24-hour one time period in Tokyo, but was charged for 3 "one time" periods. Customer service said I connected 3 devices, when in fact I connected 2 -- a laptop and iPhone (didn't know that was against the rules). Would not offer a refund. Explained that I connected my laptop twice within the 24 hour period, but their reports showed it was 3 different devices. The amount in question is small, but this doesn't make me feel confident in their service if their software cannot accurately read a MAC address. Will call the bank and dispute the charges ---... Don't do it. seems innocent enough. $7.95 to use your iphone in an airport you are stuck in because of some 'weather.' Signup is easy, heck there's even an app for that. Instructions are dead simple and....i can't get online. rats. guess i'll use my laptop, whatev's. Next month, not only did i get CHARGED for not being able to use the mobile Wifi, but the same charge showed up 3 more times for a total of 4 identical charges. Of course i didn't discover this until 3 months had passed. Yea i got busy and wasn't checking my statement. BAD... More...

  • Lousy

I would be very careful with Boingo. My advice is uninstall their application from your computer or wireless device. They are running a fishy business. Example: in March you buy a one-time session (let’s say one hour). The terms and conditions state that any future connections will be charged as Pay as you Go. The problem is that next time you are not aware of being charged for internet. In November you connect to what seems to be an open network, you go online without having to select a pricing option or having to agree to the charges. Their application logs you in and you end up... I was pissed too, they did the same thing to me and refused to refund the extra charges. I live in FL, but "Bogus" Boingo Wireless is based in South Santa Monica, California. I wrote the attorney general there and asked him to investigate Boingo business practices. I've also filed a complaint with the FL state attorney and the CA Better Business Bureau. That's not all, I am on a mission. I bought www.ihateboingo.com I am currently working on the website. • Billed for Service Never Provided

I signed up for the service and used it one time. Additional charges started showing up on my credit card bill for airports I had never been to. I told them I was NOT at those airports on those days and they said my laptop was there using their service. My laptop does not travel with anyone but me. It was at my home office on the dates in question - go figure! DO NOT sign up for this service, you will regret it and you will not be credited for services you never received. What a rip-off. I signed up for their service at ATL airport for a 24hr period. Apparently by doing so I signed some kind of contract that they can charge that credit card again if I use their services again. I was at Brussels airport a few months later and because of a popup that they installed, I was automatically logged into their account. They ended up charging me $20 for the service. There wasn't even a window with a rate or a do you agree to sign in window. I found it bordering fraudulent. I emailed them numerous times. They were quite dismissive and told me I should have read the fine print... More...

Never ever use this service. They promise a one-day charge of $7.95 for wireless connection. But when you actually use the service in an airport, you are charged over and over again for that connection. The company asks you to install a popup connector, then it keeps popping up, and whenever you try to make it go away, you are charged again. Then they waste hours and hours of your time as you try to have the charges removed. They are thieves. Avoid at all costs. More...

I had the same experience with Boingo--I signed up in an airport and could never get online. When I called to cancel citing technical issues and asked for refund, they told me they couldn't because the fee wasn't based on usage. When I asked the agent if there was anything he could do, because I would be calling my credit card company to contest the fee, it was like I'd flipped an automatic switch with him. He answered that he could offer me nothing because I'd threatened to contest with my credit card company. This company has AWFUL customer service. It seems to... More...

I signed up for the Boingo wireless internet service at an airport. After supplying my cc number, it was apparent after several attempts that the wireless service was down and therefore I was not able to utilize them as an ISP. After numerous calls to tech support, I told them that since they were unable to deliver the service I paid for & signed up for, I wanted to cancel my account and receive a refund. • Huge undisclosed fees

Boingo Wireless advertises low rates. When you create an account, you give a credit card number. I recently was in Germany at a hotel and they had wireless internet access. I clicked on the browser and Boingo came up. I could not get on the hotel service because the Boingo service came up. I had no information as to cost or time of service. I did click on Boingo and got online. I got home two days ago and had two bills from Boingo for $19.95 each. I had no information on how much the service would cost or its timeframe. I called Boingo re this and was told that when I signed up (at least 6... More...

  • Credit Card

Like most internet based start up companies, Boingo Wireless will abuse your credit card to hell and back. I installed the service and entered my CC number. The very next day I called up and canceled - it was basically lousy service. I should have realized that these cash strapped firms rarely take no for an answer, ignored the cancellation and went right ahead charging. I foolishly missed several charges they illegally made on my account and I have now lost nearly $100. I tried to cancel several times and STILL, the charges appear - and each time I have to deal with customer... More...

  • Billing practices

Boingo is a horrible service that exploits the ability of automatic credit card acceptance. I cancelled my service and two weeks later was billed a $7.95 fee. The shift supervisor confirmed the recorded conversation and agreed to the prior cancellation. Two weeks later my credit card shows another charge for $11.23, they claim it was for a usage before being cancelled but that is not accurate. This is not a question of the money, it is a dispute of the principle and unfair billing practice. BEWARE! BOINGO billing service unscrupulous and I do not recommend anyone use it. With business... While traveling through Saint Louis I signed up for Boingo Wireless at the airport. Boingo advertises that you can log into your Boingo account from any one of their 100,000+ locations. The fee for 24hours is $7.95 or you can choose pay a monthly fee. I don't travel enough to pay a monthly fee, so I signed up for 24 hours. When I got my bank statement they ended up charging me $7.95 three times. I have just cancelled my Boingo account, as I kept getting billed for connecitons which I did not authorise (via password) or make. It seemed to be my i Phone which connected, but no passwrod was ever requested after my initial use of the system at an airport in august of 2011. One of the contacts was made via a hotel in Puerto Rico??? I have never been to Puerto Rico. Does this mean the Boingo system is not secure? I have had 8 connections which I did not authorise and only realise when I found the receipts in my spam.No offer to compensate from Boingo as they said someone must have my password?

Faced with no other option in Edinburgh Airport I signed up for what I thought was a one-off payment to send one email. I now find they are removing £14.95 from my credit card every month and have taken £104.65, for sending one email that did not even get read. There is no cancellation option on the website. This sort of malpractice should be illegal.

I just called 1-8008804117 to cancel and it seems like quite a straightforward process. I signed up yesterday and called up today to stop renewal after the 1st month, and they did it for both my laptop and mobile accounts immediately. They gave me the code for the termination as well.

I wonder if it's because I am a foreigner and I told them that after I leave the country, there is no need for me to have the account anymore?
