    I had a pretty good experience with canceling Boingo. Like many others, I joined in an airport to get immediate email access, and didn’t notice that I was signing up for life. When I saw the monthly bills to my credit card, I called the toll free number to cancel and did get the “the system is down for maintenance, try again later” message from their account person, which I do think is a deliberate scam– they hope you’ll forget to try again.   • Awful awful awful

    I had the same experience with Boingo--I signed up in an airport and could never get online. When I called to cancel citing technical issues and asked for refund, they told me they couldn't because the fee wasn't based on usage. When I asked the agent if there was anything he could do, because I would be calling my credit card company to contest the fee, it was like I'd flipped an automatic switch with him.     Like most internet based start up companies, Boingo Wireless will abuse your credit card to hell and back. I installed the service and entered my CC number. The very next day I called up and canceled - it was basically lousy service. I should have realized that these cash strapped firms rarely take no for an answer, ignored the cancellation and went right ahead charging. I foolishly missed several charges they illegally made on my account and I have now lost nearly $100.
