Boingo charges after auto login, no warning, ridiculous price. In a zone with free wifi.


I was travelling through Heathrow Airport to JFK two weeks ago and my ipad got wi-fi in both. Great. Until I saw my credit card statement.
As I was in the lounge at Heathrow, and had used the free wifi there previously, I had assumed that was the provider. But no. Boingo's stealth rip-off machine made my ipad auto log into their "service" because they had been the only choice in an airport in Africa I travelled through in October. If this doesn't count as "theft" then it damned well ought to. I have cancelled my "service" with Boingo, which was - at least - easier than others have reported as was accomplished online. But frankly from some of the other horror stories you can read about this disreputable organisation, I don't actually trust them with my credit card number...

I have written to you.

Despite receiving a confirmation of cancellation from Boingo on 21st January, I noticed another auto login at LGA airport this afternoon. I do not expect to be charged for this obviously.

What a strange company you work for.
